Once upon a time there was Lala Zhara

Coming from a modest background and a respected traditional family, Lalla Zhara was born in 1925, in a Morocco, in full change, at the dawn of the French presence. She is raised by a combative mother after the death of her father whom she never knew.

On the occasion of the wedding of a notable, she is spotted by the women of a prestigious Caïd (Caïd of caïds) fallen under the charm of her beauty and her education. She is promised to the son of the Caïd.

A sumptuous wedding

A sumptuous wedding is celebrated in 1945, on the return of the son of the caïd, mobilized with the French, during the 2nd World War. Zahra is 20 years old. She becomes Lalla Zhor.

Away from her family, she is integrated into the big house of the Caïd to perfect her education, where she is under the guardianship of the women of the Caïd, who will adopt her at once. They gave her the nickname of “Khtiti”, my little sister, to make her feel at home among them. This nickname ended up surpassing that of Lalla Zhor.

From Khtiti (my little sister) to Riad Zhor

Engaged in the struggle for independence, the son of the caïd, is killed in 1964, a year before independence. His heritage is dispersed.

Lalla Zhor is forced to work to raise and educate her 3 young boys and her only daughter. She puts to good use her refined know-how acquired in the pure Moroccan tradition, first in Moroccan cooking, then in traditional Moroccan and later European sewing, which she discovered thanks to a French (religious) sister, who became her best friend and inseparable two little sisters.
